Nutrition education and resources that we offer will not only assist us in completing our mission, but will allow us to create and support lifestyle changes for our citizens. Our mission here at Macon-Bibb County Recreation is “to build healthy communities through people, parks and programs”. We must exercise our due diligence by providing participants with opportunities to access healthier foods, engage in physical activity and making lifestyle changes. The nutrition education component we are adding to our youth programs will ensure that children and their parents are well equipped to prepare and select healthier foods. We are very passionate about nutrition education and encouraging physical activity. Memberships will expire based on the length for which they are purchased. Annual year memberships are only available for purchase during the fall semester. This includes but is not limited to promoting healthy physical activity at all of our locations and providing healthier snacks for participants. The Rec Sports annual year is September 1 thru August 31. All of our sites have taken the “Commit to Health” pledge through the National Recreation and Park Association. The DRC offers two types of sports for youth, youth sports classes and youth sports leagues.
